2011, hooray!

Boy, 2010 was a momentous year for me! It seems that 2011 is not going to be too different in terms of excitement and 'events' spaced all throughout the year.

I am most pleased that I promised to be back here with a follow up post on New Yeasrs Day....and what do you know - its actually NYD! Believe me, given my way it probably would have been the 2nd or 3rd (or lets face, it, possibly the 4th!) before I actually got back here (due to this insufferable illness I seem to be afflicted with called procrastinationitis), however B has kept reminding me that today is the 1st, and I promised another post today.
See, you've only just met B, and ya like him already, dontcha ;)

But back on track.....cute little man knits :)
My personal thoughts are stripes are way funky on a little guy.
Back before I knew this bubby was only carrying one X chromosome, I did up a wee vest in brown and white stripe...plus little botties in the same yarn to match:

The vest is knit to my lovely friend Julie's pattern, and is called the Explorer Vest. You can find Julie blogging at Reclaiming Time, and you can get a copy of her vest pattern (goes from NB - 5yrs and the Big Brother Explorer from 5yrs - 16yrs) at Ravelry.
The booties are knit to the Winter Booties pattern by Brenda Green, and can also be found at Ravelry.

And another stripey knit started before we knew the baby's gender:

This is a Young Einstein, a pattern by another friend of mine, Julia of Just One WIP. Her Young Einstein pattern can also be snaffled via Ravelry.
The matching bonnet is a Sugar or Spice Bonnet by Amanda Keeys.

One final thing to share tonight is taking a 'plain' garment and embellishing it to make it special and cute. One of my favourite ways to do this is with duplicate stitch embellishing. The BEST d.s charts I have come across are by the lovely Tanja of Watermellish. I have just finished a wee pair of overalls with one of her mousie charts:
If you are interested in giving duplicate stitch charts a go, Tanja is hosting a month long Embellish-a-long in the Budding Designers Downunder forum.

Interestingly enough, having to knit little boys items has re-inspired me to do a little more design work......primarily for baby boys :) I'm hoping over the next couple of weeks I may have some cryptic photos to share with you of the new thigns I have been working on.....Guess we will have to keep B on my case aye ;)
