naked

My first new pattern of the year has been released!
May I present to you my first dishcloth pattern -

naked
a free knitting pattern by Kelly Brooker for knit.so.quaint

pattern description:
Naked is a dishcloth pattern utilising the faggotted lace stitch to create a cloth with excellent grip, while still being gentle on yarn consumption.
This pattern is the ‘little brother’ to the more involved dishcloth pattern, ruffly (due for release March 2010). Naked differs from ruffly in that there is no flouncy ruffle surrounding the centre lace panel (hence the naked name!)

materials:
Consider this an exercise in using up your part balls of cotton/bamboo/soy from previous projects!
You will need approx 30g of DK(8ply), Worsted(light 10ply), or Aran(heavy 10ply) weight cotton/bamboo/soy.

equipment:
You will need knitting needles one size smaller than what your yarn ball band recommends.
As a guide for this pattern, I suggest knitting DK on 3.75mm, Worsted on 4.0mm, and Aran on 4.5mm.

sizing:
All cloths made from this pattern will be somewhere between 20 and 25cm square.
When following the pattern, each yarn weight is referred to as:
DK(Worsted, Aran)

the pattern:
Loosely cast on 48(44, 40)sts.

row 1: slip 1 stitch as if to purl, yarn to back, knit to end

repeat row 1 9(7, 5) more times - 10(8, 6) rows total

row 2: slip 1 stitch as if to purl, yarn to back, knit 6(5, 4)sts, [yo, k2tog] repeat instructions in brackets until 7(6, 5)sts remain, knit to end

repeat row 2 until work measures approx. 3cm less than the width of the cloth

work row 1 10(8, 6) more times

cast off all stitches loosely

FINISHING: Cut and knot your yarn. Sew in ends. Cotton will unravel, so make sure any joins are secured with tight knots!
